The Republic of Haiti is located in the Caribbean Sea, on the Hispaniola Island. In the Tainos language, Haiti means "Mountain land".
From being the first black Republic in 1804 to being the "Pearl of the Antilles" in the 1960s, Haïti, is today the poorest country of the Northern hemisphere.
The January 12, 2010 earthquake, the strongest in more than 200 years, left over 200,000 people dead, 740,000 people contaminated by cholera (8,800 died of it).

OUR IMPACT
May/ June 2016
ANACAONA is proud to announce that the platform now has 25 hotel partners in Jacmel, Port-au-Prince and Cote-des-Arcadins!
We can’t wait to start collecting used soap from all of them!

We can’t wait to start collecting used soap from all of them!
The months of May and June were dedicated to finishing our first soap prototypes, and we did! If most of the used soap
in the hotels come from abroad, it was important for ANACAONA to use only Haitian products in the recycling process. We did a lot of research on many Haitian plants and products, understanding better the properties of each one of them. We also wanted our packaging to have the least environmental impact possible and this is why we decided to work with SisalCo, a Haitian Company, growing sisal in the northern part of the country. Sisal is 100% biodegradable and our purchase contributes to helping Haitian farmers and their families. |

Here are our 4 different “ReLuxeHaiti” bars of soap!
The end of June finished on a great note as ANACAONA was invited by the Haitian Tourism Association to speak
at the Best Western about soap recycling. The event focused on the Waste Management problem in Haiti and representatives from several different recycling initiatives came to speak about their actions. We were very pleased to be a part of it and met a lot of interesting people. Many thanks to the ATH ! March/ April 2016
In March 2016, ANACAONA collected for the second time the used soap from hotels in Jacmel,
Port-au-Prince and Cote-des-Arcadins.
What a great feeling to see that the amount of soap had increased since the previous month!

We also met with the housekeeping personnel of our hotel partners to explain to them the project and
get to meet the wonderful people who will make the soap collection happen! What a great time we had!

In April, ANACAONA launched a 45-day Crowdfunding Campaign on the Indiegogo platform. It was a very busy time with
a lot of campaign preparation and networking to do, but it was worth it!
The team went back to Florida to present the campaign to different organizations and raise awareness on our needs.
With the generosity of many incredible people, from 11 different countries, we were able to collect $23,000 USD! This money will be a huge help in the implementation our activities for the coming months such as: the recruitment of our first women employees, the distribution of soap in schools, the hygiene training of teachers and the distribution of ceramic water filters to schools.

January/ February 2016
In January 2016, the ANACAONA team met with several hotels in Jacmel,
Port-au-Prince and Cote-des-Arcadins to present our project.
The first impressions were very encouraging as all the Hotel Managers loved the idea and agreed to start
collecting their used-soap.

Port-au-Prince and Cote-des-Arcadins to present our project.
The first impressions were very encouraging as all the Hotel Managers loved the idea and agreed to start
collecting their used-soap.
To help these hotels with their first month of soap collection, we met with multiple Housekeeping teams,
explaining to the men and women in charge of cleaning the rooms the idea behind this new activity
and how their help can impact the Environment, Women Empowerment and Waterborne Disease Reduction.
Being able to connect with the people at the beginning of our soap-chain was a very special moment.
In February, while the hotels were putting aside the used-soap,
the ANACAONA team went to Florida and Switzerland to present the project abroad and meet with future partners.
By the end of February, ANACAONA started its first soap collection and
what a great reward it was to see that every hotel had collected some used-soap!
This soap was then brought back to our new workshop in Port-au-Prince
where we soon expect to welcome our first employees.
Stay connected for our March updates!"
