WHERE WE WORK?

Cité-Soleil
Born in the 1960’s under the dictatorship of François Duvalier, Cité-Soleil was meant to become a fancy Port-au-Prince seaside resort. However, the situation rapidly deteriorated. Today, Cité-Soleil is the largest slum in the Caribbean where more than 250,000 people live. It is known as a lawless area, abandoned by the Government. Despite the daily life difficulties, the area is filled with local initiatives, passionate and hard-working young people, and an obvious will to live a better life.

Did you know? The Cité-Soleil library, under construction since 2019, is one of the most supported grassroot initiatives in the country. With over 6,500 contributors and 25,000 books donated, the project is promising ! Follow its progress here.

The Centre

Also known as the Central Plateau, the region of the Centre is home to three mountain ranges as well as the large Artibonite watershed, the longest river in Haiti. A two-hour drive from Port-au-Prince, this department is where the cholera epidemic started in 2010 and hit Haiti for ten years. The geographical location of Mirebalais and Hinche make them a pleasant weekend getaway.

Did you know? In the small remote village of Ville Bonheur, one can find Saut d'Eau, the most sacred waterfall in the country. Every year in July, thousands of people gather during a week-long pilgrimage to honor Erzulie, the voodoo loa of love and beauty.

The Grand' Anse

The Grand'Anse, a well-kept paradise in the southwest of Haiti, is one of the most abundant departments of Haiti. The town of Anse d'Hainault is located three hours from Jérémie, its regional capital known as the City of Poets. Far from the rest of the country, this region suffers from a lack of infrastructure and remains heavily impacted by Cyclone Matthew that ravaged the region in October 2016.

Did you know? Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, father of the famous Three Musketeers’ author, was born in Jeremie in 1762.
